May 2013 Events in Grand Haven

I don't know about you, but I am ready for spring..summer...sunshine!  I was the girl who wore sandals to church this morning... and while waiting for lunch with friends looked out the window and saw a few snowflakes!  Oh well... here's to hoping for warm weather!
In my summer weather excitement I wanted to look into what activities would be going on in Grand Haven as the weather warms and afternoons along the beach and boardwalk seem to transition seamlessly into evenings of sunsets and maybe a little ice cream!  Thanks to Grand Haven Convention & Visitors Bureau for some great inspiration!
So here are some fun things to start looking forward to - start planning a visit to Grand Haven, and maybe even a sweet stay at Ruth's Retreat

May 3rd - First Friday Gallery Walk (runs all summer)                                                                                                Art, refreshments and a great way to start off a Friday night! The event starts at 6:00 pm at C2C Gallery - 104 Washington Ave, Grand Haven
Check out www.c2cgallery.com for more information!

May 11th - Farmers Market (kicks off for the summer!)
This Saturday starts one of my favorite Saturday morning traditions in Grand Haven.  Head for the green canopy next to Chinook Pier in downtown Grand Haven, less than a 5 minute walk from Ruth’s! Enjoy local fresh seasonal produce, flowers, plants, baked goods and so much more.

Check out www.grandhavenchamber.org for more information!

May 17-19 - Great Lakes Kite Festival
Enjoy a day at Grand Haven State Park Beach as the sky is filled with colorful kites of all shapes and sizes!  Stunt kite flyers, kites that are larger than a school bus, or your own kite – a fun filled afternoon is sure to be had as a spectator or flyer!  I had the chance to be in town for this a few years ago and enjoyed a great afternoon on the beach.  Was a great windy spring day, not warm enough for swimming and bathing suits quite yet – but an afternoon well spent!

May 22nd - 27th - Fruitport Old Fashioned Days
Head to Pomona Park in nearby Fruitport, MI for this long running annual festival that boasts a carnival midway, fireworks, 5k/10k run, ice cream social, parade, and the very popular and intriguing sounding Ox Roast.

May 24th - 25th  8th Annual Memorial Day Rib Fest
It's the annual "Battle of the Bones" - hosted by Grand Haven VFW Post 2326.  Area BBQ enthusiasts compete to win Judges and People's Choice for the best ribs! Live music, entertainment tent, and of course ribs!
